This week’s Enterprise Technology & Services (ET&S) Tech Briefing contains new information and a reminder.

New Zoom Features Now Available 
To Know: Zoom released some great new features that make it easier to use, such as: 

  • Saving breakout room participant assignments in recurring meetings for future use 
  • Sharing audio to breakout rooms
  • Offering a picture in picture mode for mobile device participants.
  • Displaying the meeting invitee list in the host participants’ panel for simplified attendance tracking

Zoombombing Reminder (New)

To Know: Zoombombing remains an active technique to interrupt and disrupt meetings and classes. Faculty and staff should be aware of the danger and take steps to prevent it from happening to you. 

To Do: Review this KB article for recommendations to prevent this from happening. 

Chrome & Edge Security Risk (New)

To Know: Google and Microsoft issued warnings regarding a new security risk that impacts the Chrome and Edge (Chromium-based) browsers. Confirming your browser is up to date on all devices will protect you and your data.

To Do: Update your browser. Here’s how:

Chrome:

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More.
  3. Click Help, About Google Chrome.
  4. Click Update Google Chrome. Important: If you can't find this button, you're on the latest version.
  5. Click Relaunch.

You can also turn on automatic updates:

Go to "About Google Chrome," and click Automatically update Chrome for all users

Edge:

  1. In your Microsoft Edge browser, click on the 3 dots (...) on the very right-hand side of the window
  2. Click on 'Help and Feedback'
  3. Click on 'About Microsoft Edge.'

KSC Phone Upgrade (Reminder)

To Know: ET&S will upgrade the KSC telephone infrastructure in May and merge it into the USNH platform. Over the next two months, ET&S will work on installing and configuring the new phone equipment for all KSC users.

Cutover to the new system will occur the week of May 16.  As that date approaches, ET&S will complete the following work at KSC (in order):

  • Share specific building cutover dates with KSC faculty and staff
  • Replace existing phone sets with Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) models
  • Activate the new phones
  • Remove old phones
