Here is a summary of this week’s Enterprise Technology & Services (ET&S) Tech Briefing:

  • Cybersecurity Awareness Month starts next week. USNH is celebrating this annual event by hosting a series of in-person and virtual events, and sharing information to help you safely manage your information.
  • In 2025, Windows 10 will reach its end of life, and ET&S will migrate all USNH machines to Windows 11 in the spring. The good news is Windows 11 is freely available to all USNH employees. Upgrade today to keep your Windows computer safe and compliant.

Cybersecurity Awareness Month Begins Next Week!

To Know: Since 2004, the United States has celebrated October as Cyber Security Awareness Month. This month is our opportunity to share essential tips to stay safe online, best practices for managing your information, and insights into the ever-evolving field of cybersecurity.

Here's what we have lined up for this year's Cybermonth:

Weekly Tips: Get ready for weekly short videos packed with tips and tricks to stay safe online, protect your data, and boost your cyber knowledge.

Tip #1: Multi-factor authentication, also known as two-factor authentication, provides an extra layer of security beyond passwords. Even if a password has been compromised, unauthorized users will be unable to meet the second requirement and access the account. MFA may involve sending a code to a phone or generating a code through an authenticator app to confirm your identity.  

 

Webinar Wednesdays: Join us for online presentations from guest speakers on various cybersecurity topics. These webinars will be held every Wednesday during October around lunchtime. Stay tuned for the full schedule and registration link.

Cybermonth Event: Mark your calendars for October 23, from 9am to 1pm, for an in-person event featuring special guests. We will have presentations by the NH Secretary of State, David M. Scanlan, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), and the Information Sharing and Analysis Center (ISAC). Enjoy light snacks and refreshments and participate in our Amazon Gift card raffle. This event will be held at the Strafford Room in the MUB at UNH. All members of the USNH community are welcome to attend.

Upgrade to Windows 11 for a Better Experience!

Microsoft has announced that Windows 10 will reach its end of life in 2025. To keep your devices secure and up to date, we encourage you to upgrade to Windows 11 now.

How to Upgrade?

USNH has enabled the Windows 11 update feature, allowing you to upgrade your system through Windows Updates at your convenience. Spring Migration

The end of life for Windows 10 means USNH will require a mandatory migration to Windows 11. However, you can onboard sooner to ensure a smooth transition. Additionally, ET&S will migrate all Windows 10 computers to Windows 11 before the end of the spring semester to ensure that everyone transitions smoothly and efficiently.
