Single sources of truth

Single sources of truth provide content from the most accurate source, avoiding duplication of content, outdated or inaccurate information.

Purpose and audience

Certain USNH websites and USNH-maintained external content have been designated as the single source of truth for university-wide information. When something is a single source of truth, its information cannot be copied onto any other web page. Websites must embed information from those sources or link to them.

Embedding USNH content

Information from these USNH websites may be embedded onto other USNH websites, filtered to display only relevant information:

For help embedding information from these sources on your site, please contact ET&S.

Internships

Handshake is the career management system for USNH student internships on campus or in the community. Handshake should be the single source of truth for all external internships offered to USNH students. All external opportunities should only be posted on Handshake to avoid duplication and ensure accuracy and timeliness.

External fellowships and scholarships

The office that owns the content regarding external fellowships and scholarships is the single source of truth; websites should link to these offices.

Internal school-wide scholarships

Grants and Scholarships is the single source for school-wide internal scholarships at KSC.
PSU Scholarship Opportunities Homepage is the single source for school-wide internal scholarships at PSU.
UNH Scholarships is the single source for school-wide internal scholarships at UNH.

Always look to see if information is already provided somewhere else on the website by the “owner” of that information and link to it rather than copying it, if it makes sense.

Embedding external content

External content can be embedded in a USNH website only if the creator of the material is from USNH or from an organization with a recognized relationship, such as:

  • USNH videos stored in MediaSpace or YouTube
  • USNH Twitter feeds
  • USNH Facebook channels
  • USNH Tableau data
  • USNH SalesForce forms
  • Affiliated research organizations

Google maps may also be embedded on USNH websites.

To request that other tools, services or information be embedded on a webpage, please contact Enterprise Technology & Services. The tool may need to have a security review.

Use the embed code provided by the external tools. I-frames are discouraged because they are not natively responsive and so are can be difficult to read on mobile devices.

For questions regarding single sources of truth and embedded content, please contact ET&S.

Training

Anyone working on a Drupal website is welcome to attend the open walk-in training and help sessions that ET&S offers. For a schedule of the training sessions and walk-in times, see the Teaching & Learning Technologies training calendar.

Responsibility for content

USNH websites are maintained by members of the University system community acting as official representatives of the University System of New Hampshire. Editors are responsible for linking to content and creating embedded content as described in this standard. In addition, editors should review links on their websites at least twice a year to ensure that all links and embedded content are still active and available. Finally, editors are responsible for complying with all relevant laws and university system policies.

Violations

Although USNH ET&S does not monitor or regularly review site content, it reserves the right to remove at any time any content that it considers to violate this standard or any other USNH policies.

If inappropriate or inaccurate content is submitted, USNH ET&S will contact the site owner to discuss the issue. If the site or content owner cannot be contacted or is no longer at USNH, that content will be administered by ET&S and can be removed if deemed inaccurate or inappropriate. When content is obviously unacceptable, USNH ET&S will immediately remove the content prior to contacting the site owner. Unacceptable entries also may cause unh.edu website access to be suspended.

Reports regarding inappropriate content may be sent to USNH ET&S.
