2021 Event Schedule

Each October, USNH recognizes National Cyber Security Awareness Month by offering events and resources about information protection and data security risks. Resources offered include good practices, tools, and solutions to identify and protect sensitive information.

Topic: Password Prep Academy: A deep dive into password hygiene and multi-factor authentication
Jordan Chadwick, University of New Hampshire
Jordan Chadwick, Cybersecurity Engineer, will provide an in-depth look at good practice around password management and multifactor authentication. The user will learn how to set strong, complex passwords and how multi-factor authentication works in depth and how it protects the University and your account information. This is a great class for users at all levels of the University.

Topic: Shark Academy: How to recognize a phishing attack and what to do
Alina Stechyshyn, University of New Hampshire
Alina Stechyshyn, Cybersecurity Engineer, will provide an in-depth look at phishing attacks. The user will learn how to discern the difference between phishing and spam email. How to report phishing to Cybersecurity and how to check if the email you received is legitimate or not. The user will also learn how to determine if their account has been compromised. This is a great class for users at all levels of the University.

Topic: Hygiene Academy: Security for the lay person
Tony Dumas, University of New Hampshire
Tony Dumas, Cybersecurity Engineer, will provide security tips and good security hygiene practices for students, faculty and staff. The user will learn to become more security aware when using laptops and cell phones. This is a great class for users at all levels of the University.

Topic: Control Academy: Good controls are good management and equal clean Information technology audits
Ivy Finglas, University of New Hampshire
Ivy Finglas, Director Cybersecurity Engineering Operations and Identity Access Management, will provide an in-depth look at how to design and implement good controls including security for IT professionals. The user will learn about general computer controls that are an expectation from our internal auditors and will increase IT professional’s security awareness when implementing new systems. This is a great class for IT professionals at the University and leaders who want to ensure that key IT controls are baked in and not an afterthought.

Topic: Security Awareness Academy – Empowering the User
William Sames, University of New Hampshire

The user will learn how they play a critical role in protecting USNH information technology resources and the awareness training available to help them achieve their security superpowers. This is a great class for users at all levels of the University.

Tom Nudd, Chief Information Security Officer, will provide an in-depth look at careers in Cybersecurity. The user will learn about the different career paths in IT security and the kind of degree programs and qualifications required. This is a great class for students and any employee trying to change careers into Cybersecurity.
