Ed MacKay Receives “Distinguished Business Officer” Award from NACUBO
Award is Announced as Dr. MacKay Steps into Chancellor Role with the University System of NH
June 30, 2009—Lee, NH—Just prior to becoming the 6th chancellor of the University System of New Hampshire (USNH), Dr. Ed MacKay received the Distinguished Business Officer Award from the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO). This award is the highest individual honor bestowed by the association.
Dr. MacKay was formally recognized in Boston on June 28th at the NACUBO annual meeting and is one of two recipients of this honor for 2009. The other recipient was Yoke San L. Reynolds, vice president and chief financial officer at the University of Virginia.
Dr. MacKay takes over as the USNH chancellor on July 1, 2009 and succeeds Stephen Reno, who stepped down after nine years of service in the position. Dr. MacKay moves from the position of vice chancellor and treasurer and has been with the University System for 33 years.
A profile of Dr. MacKay produced for the award event stated that, “MacKay garners the respect and esteem of all who work with him, from the USNH Board of Trustees, to the finance and business officers, to his direct employees. He is a visionary leader and an inspirational role model; the ‘go-to” person in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles.”
The NACUBO Awards program identifies and encourages individual excellence and innovation in the management of college and university business and financial affairs. Nominations are accepted year-round, with the selection process held annually in the spring. The Distinguished Business Officer Award is given to individuals who, during the course of their careers, have made outstanding contributions to business and financial management in higher education.
Dr. MacKay has made significant contributions to many higher education and professional organizations, including having served as past chairman of the NACUBO Board of Directors, past president of the Eastern Association of College and University Business Officers, and a member of Fidelity Investments Tax Exempt Clients Advisory Board. Within New Hampshire, is the current chair of the New Hampshire College Tuition Savings (“529”) Plan Commission and former chair of the New Hampshire Higher Education Loan Corporation.
NACUBO, founded in 1962, is a nonprofit professional organization representing more than 2,100 colleges and universities across the country and providing a wide range of finance and administrative information and resources for its member institutions and staff. NACUBO’s mission is to promote sound management and financial practices at colleges and universities.
