University System of New Hampshire Board of Trustees Re-elects Chair and Vice Chair and Welcomes New Members

June 30, 2007—Durham, NH—The University System of New Hampshire (USNH) Board of Trustees re-elected Andrew Lietz as Board Chair and Edward Dupont as Vice Chair for one-year terms at their annual meeting at the University of New Hampshire in Durham on June 28th. The Board also re-elected Edwinna Vanderzanden as Secretary and welcomed three new members.

The three new members are the incoming President of the University of New Hampshire, Mark Huddleston, Larry Haynes from Weare, President & CEO of the Grappone Auto Group, and Anna Peterson from Peterborough, a student representative from the University of New Hampshire who will replace Jeremy Foskitt, the outgoing student representative from Plymouth State University.

Mark Huddleston is replacing J. Bonnie Newman, who is completing her service as the interim UNH president.  Larry Haynes was elected by Plymouth State University alumni to serve as the PSU trustee representative.  He will replace Eugene Savage, who decided to step down from the USNH Board after serving since 1999.  Peter lamb was re-elected by UNH alumni to another term, and John Ouellette, student representative from Keene State College, was re-elected for another one-year term.  The Executive Council on June 27 confirmed the Governor’s re-appointment of Richard Ashooh, Joel Maiola, and Elizabeth Tamposi for additional four-year terms.  The 27-member Board is responsible for the oversight of the University System, which includes the University of New Hampshire, Plymouth State University, Keene State College, and Granite State College.

What follows is some brief biographical information on the officers and new appointees:

Andrew Lietz, Rye
Chair
Profile: Graduate: Wayne State University (B.S., 1961). Currently Managing Director of Rye Capital Management. President and CEO of Hadco Corporation from 1995 to 2000. Former chairman of the NH BIA Board of Directors and served on Gov. Shaheen's Blue Ribbon Commission in 2000. Appointed to the Board by Gov. Shaheen to a term beginning May 23, 2001 and expiring June 30, 2004; re-appointed by Gov. Benson to a term expiring on June 30, 2008.

Edward Dupont, Durham
Vice Chair
Profile: Attended the University of New Hampshire. Founder and President of The Dupont Group Ltd., a government relations consulting firm in Concord; director of Merchantbanc, a venture capital firm in Manchester. As a former five-term State Senator, he served as Senate Majority Leader and was elected President of the Senate in 1990. Appointed to the Board by Gov. Benson on March 6, 2003 to a term expiring on June 30, 2005; reappointed by Gov. Lynch to a term expiring on June 30, 2009.

Edwinna Vanderzanden, Rochester
Secretary
Profile: Graduate: University of New Hampshire (B.S.N., 1980); Northeastern University (Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Certificate); University of Maine (J.D., 1984). Member, UNH Alumni Assn. Board 1993-99 and president from 1997-99. Chair, Pettee Medal Committee. Director, NH Foundation of Medical Care, 1984-1994. Who's Who in American Law, 1990-92. Elected by the UNH Alumni to serve a term beginning July 1, 2001 and expiring June 30, 2005; re-elected to serve a second term expiring on June 30, 2009.

Mark Huddleston
President, University of New Hampshire
Profile: Graduate: SUNY Buffalo (B.A., 1972); University of Wisconsin-Madison (MA, 1973); University of Wisconsin-Madison (PhD, 1978). Dr. Huddleston was appointed president of the University of New Hampshire on April 18, 2007. Formerly President of Ohio Wesleyan University. Ex-officio member of the Board of Trustees effective July 1, 2007.

Larry Haynes
PSU Alumni Trustee
2007-2011
Profile: Graduate: Plymouth State University (B.S., 1986); Southern New Hampshire University (M.B.A., 2000); and Leadership New Hampshire (2003). Certified Public Accountant and Certified Financial Planner, President and CEO of the Grappone Automotive Group in Bow, NH. Member of Plymouth State University’s Presidents Council. Elected by Plymouth State University Alumni on May 29, 2007 to a four year term expiring June 30, 2011.

Anna Peterson
Student Trustee (UNH)
2007-2008
PROFILE: A senior with a dual major in History and Justice Studies and a minor in Sociology. She works as a Building Manager Supervisor in the Memorial Union Building on campus, she also serves as Vice-chair of the Memorial Union Board of Governors and as an Honors Program Student Representative. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Alpha Theta (History Honors Society), and Alpha Phi Sigma (Justice Studies Honors Society). She plans to attend law school in 2008. Elected by the UNH student body to serve as a Student Trustee for a term expiring June 30, 2008.
