Statement Regarding the Search Process for the Next President of the University of New Hampshire

December 21, 2006 – LEE, NH – The University System of New Hampshire is releasing the following statement regarding the status of the search for the next president at the University of New Hampshire:

“ For the past few months, the UNH Presidential Search Committee has been engaged in an extensive and careful review of applicants and nominees for the position of president of the University of New Hampshire.  Although this process has brought two finalists to Durham and Manchester for on-site visits, neither of these candidates remains under consideration. The Chairman of the University System of New Hampshire Board of Trustees Andrew Lietz, USNH Chancellor Stephen Reno, and Chairman of the Presidential Search Committee Edward Dupont will continue the search effort with the search committee and consider additional candidates for on-site visits after the New Year.

The Committee is fortunate to have a large and varied pool of candidates from which to draw and will take the time necessary to find the right match of professional qualifications and personal characteristics for the next leader of the University of New Hampshire.

This should not adversely impact plans to have a new president in place in time for the beginning of the 2007-08 academic year and Interim President Bonnie Newman will continue in this capacity until the next president begins his or her service. The Board of Trustees appreciates the work of the Search Committee to date and will support them in their continuing efforts.”

More information on the search process going forward will be available after the New Year and posted on the UNH and USNH web sites.
