Committee Named for University of NH Presidential Search

June 5, 2006–LEE, NH –University System of New Hampshire Board of Trustees Chairman Andy Lietz announced the members of the search committee that will be working over the next several months to help select the successor to University of New Hampshire President Ann Weaver Hart. Dr. Hart will be leaving the position as of June 30, 2006. J. Bonnie Newman will serving as interim president until a successor has been named and formally takes over the position.

Chairman Lietz has appointed the following 13 individuals to the committee:

Edward Dupont, Search Committee Chair, USNH Trustee and Vice Chair of the Board

Mimi Becker, Associate Professor of Natural Resources

Jason Brodeur, Administrative Assistant, Whittemore School of Business and Economics

Guy Eaton, UNH Housekeeping Staff

Peter Lamb, USNH Trustee (UNH alumni elected, Class of ‘76)

“The presidential selection process is one of the most important responsibilities the Board of Trustees discharges and we are truly grateful to these individuals for their active participation in the process to select the next leader of our University,” Chairman Lietz said.The makeup of the committee conforms to the Trustees’ practice of having representation from the principal groups that comprise the university community. The process overall will mirror recent searches for presidents at Keene State College and Plymouth State University.“We shall be working as a team to listen to the constituency groups regarding what they hope to see in the next UNH president to draft a challenge profile to use as part of the search. We have an aggressive schedule set for the search, but will not trade speed for quality as we search for someone who has a vision for UNH and a passion for higher learning,” Trustee Dupont said. The challenge profile will be posted on both the USNH web site and the presidential page of the UNH site by mid June. The position announcement will be placed by the first of July.

Interested individuals are encouraged to apply by September 10, 2006 and the application review process will commence shortly thereafter in an effort to narrow the field to semi-finalists who will be interviewed in person. Once the pool has been narrowed to a few finalists, those candidates will be invited to come to Durham and Manchester and participate in open forums in late fall. The committee will then make final recommendations to USNH Chancellor Stephen Reno. The Chancellor will do a thorough review of the finalists and submit his recommendation to the full Board of Trustees in December. Following approval by the Board, the new president will take office as soon as he or she is available.
