Two USNH Board Members List Among “New Hampshire’s 10 Most Powerful People”

January 9, 2006 –LEE, NH – Two members of the University System of New Hampshire’s Board of Trustees were listed among the state’s most powerful individuals by Business NH Magazine. Ann Weaver Hart, president of the University of New Hampshire, and Edward Dupont, president of the Dupont Group were included in the magazine’s annual listing of “New Hampshire’s 10 Most Powerful People.”

In citing UNH President Hart, the article highlighted her efforts to raise the stature of UNH, her work with state and federal legislators, her work on campus to increase financial aid for students and develop business partnerships, and efforts to attract and retain high quality faculty. James Pindell, managing editor of Politicsnh.com was quoted as saying that “she’s been very influential in terms of bringing her institution forward.” President Hart is in her fourth year as the head of the state’s flagship university.

Edward Dupont serves as vice-chair of the USNH Board of Trustees and has been running a highly successful lobbying firm in Concord for several years. He is also a former president of the New Hampshire State Senate. The article cited him as “a power broker who flies below the radar.” Pindell said “there are few people more knowledgeable about the legislative process. He sets the model for how to get legislation passed.”

To develop its list, Business NH Magazine staff surveyed more than 200 businesses, political, media, and nonprofit leaders for nominations. The other eight individuals on the list were Attorney General Kelly Ayotte, Senate Majority Leader Robert Clegg, NH Department of Safety Commissioner Richard Flynn, Senate President Ted Gatsas, US Senators’ Judd Gregg and John Sununu, Governor John Lynch, and NH Union Leader Publisher Joseph McQuaid. The results were published in the January 2006 edition of the magazine.
