USNH Board to Study CLL Reorganization
April 20, 2004 - Lee, NH - University System of New Hampshire (USNH) Board Chairman John Lynch announced today that the USNH Board of Trustees has approved the further development of a recommendation to explore the potential benefits of a reorganization of the College for Lifelong Learning (CLL) as a component of Plymouth State University.
The recommendation, made by USNH Chancellor Stephen Reno, calls for the development of a full analysis and implementation plan to assess the opportunities and challenges presented by changing CLL from an independent, stand-alone institution of the University System to a critical part of Plymouth State University.
Chairman Lynch said, "The Board's interest in this proposal comes from our goal of meeting the needs of our students in an efficient manner. This recommendation will be evaluated against our expectations of further enhancing the quality of the education we offer adult learners and non-traditional students around the state."
Chancellor Reno stated, "The University System's fundamental objective is to maximize our combined resources to serve all of our students. While we expect some cost savings, the recommendation is truly driven by a desire to be innovative and resourceful in our investment of scarce dollars to deliver needed educational programs."
Lynch continued, "The Board is very protective of the mission of CLL and of the adult learners we serve. In communities around New Hampshire, CLL has been the driving force in offering educational opportunities to non-traditional students."
The Board has not made a decision to reorganize CLL. It has decided to move forward with an evaluation of the analysis and an implementation plan. The Board is expected to complete its due diligence in time to make a decision at its Annual Business Meeting scheduled for June 24th on the campus of Plymouth State University.
